      <image:caption>When the Amherst CEO decided to establish a headquarters in Austin it was important that the sophistication of their Madison Avenue, New York office be incorporated.  Equally important in their new space was to add a casual Austin atmosphere and be budget sensitive.  The plan was dictated by a legally required separation  required between certain divisions of the business.  Located along the north with views to Lake Austin were the conference rooms, CEO office and those teams that needed his direct input.  Glass fronted offices along the perimeter and low panelled workstations provided an abundance of natural light to the staff.  Similar materials to New York such as stone, glass, wood floors and lacquer were used in the reception area.  A more cost sensitive pallet of polished concrete, carpet and open ceilings and was used throughout the open office.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Vista Equity Partners, a private equity firm required a new headquarters in Austin, TX that would accommodate their growing company and be a place to meet and entertain clients.  A transparent design was created that celebrates the Texas Hill Country views and supports an open work environment.  The conference room doors pivot to create a continuous event space when open and a full whiteboard work surface in the conference room when closed.  The rigorous plan is organized around a large building core.  Walnut veneer corner "boxes" at the partner boxes and art niches for their growing collection act as organizing elements in the space.  A continuous light band strengthens a continuity throughout the space and the timeless material palette of stone, lacquer and walnut panels reflects a modern Texas aesthetic.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Reliance Energy, a Midland, TX based oil and gas company requested a high-end space in Austin for their executive team for developing drilling strategies and meeting with potential investors.  A large AV intensive conference room was directly adjacent to the reception area.  Glass and wood panelled private offices were opposite the conference room with access to a large map table centrally located in the open office area.  The colors and materials were reminiscent of a West Texas landscape and contrasted with the rich wood veneer selected by the executives.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The Hilton Austin decided that their casual dining restaurant needed a sports bar that was visible from the entrance and integral to the existing space.  Because it was a budget sensitive project the furniture, banquettes, brick wall and wood covered columns and trusses were left in place.  The bar was inserted along the brick wall and a new bar- height raw edged wood table was placed adjacent to it.  Further defining the bar space is a new trellis ceiling element crafted from wood trusses that were removed.  Pendants placed over the new bar table helped to further define the bar.  New flooring, custom light fixtures and a screen were designed to update and refresh the dining space.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The Boeing Company wanted to build a new building in order to co-locate two major divisions in the greater Washington DC area closer to the Pentagon. The two winged form was generated from the programmatic need for each division and the secured spaces within them.  Coming from a traditional work culture of large private offices with adjacent assistants the challenge was to maintain that while also developing more efficient space standards.  Using Revit to space plan and organize the program provided readily available data that could be analyzed by Boeing to determine if their program and adjacencies were being appropriately met.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Baker Donelson, a Tennessee based law firm relocated from an established downtown DC building to a new building in an up and coming neighborhood.  The design was impacted by reduced square footage, a limited budget and the client's desire for a more traditional feeling space.  Two contrasting wood veneers we incorporated throughout the space at the paneled elevator, secretaries desks and on column covers.  This combined with limestone floors and stair was a cost effective solution and provided the material richness that was desired.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The Pew Charitable Trusts understood that by buying a 1980s mediocre office building they could collocate and grow their organization in a fluid, connected and creative work environment that would welcome and host in a state-of-the-art conference center everyone from donors, grassroots organizations to Members of Congress.  The initial step in creating this vision was to design a glass three-story enclosure on the front façade of the building in which a three level glass stair was placed that connected the initial three floors that Pew occupied.  Directly adjacent to the stair are the conference facilities including large and small conference rooms, a boardroom and a multipurpose room.  The multipurpose room and boardroom have movable walls that open onto the reception area creating one large open conference and entertaining space. As important as the conference center was to their exterior mission, equally important was the creation of an open work environment that mixed staff and broke down barriers between departments and programs. A rigorous planning grid was established in order to give some order to the low ceilinged and columned filled floors.  All the interior glass fronted doorless offices and low paneled workstations are planned on the grid.  Teaming tables are incorporated into the workstation configuration and glass fronted team rooms are positioned adjacent to the glass stair. The minimal and edited neutral palette of painted drywall, glass, terrazzo and woven vinyl floor tiles acts as a backdrop to the important work that the nonprofit does.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Cambridge needed additional square footage outside of their main Arlington, VA office for a group of recent college graduates led, mentored and supervised by a few managers.  They requested that this new space be youthful and professional, durable and functional and especially cost effective.   Occupying two full floors and to encourage collaboration, the conference zone, employee cafe and teaming areas were located adjacent to the elevator lobby.  With limited outside visitors the space is employee focused and flexible thus meeting their work and social needs.  The multipurpose room is able to be completely opened to the adjacent teaming space to accommodate entire staff meeting.   The material palette relates to their existing space but is more modern and dynamic befitting the younger staff.</image:caption>

As the major tenant in a new building on the harbor, the base building was reconfigured to best suit a state-of-the art conference center, cafeteria and health center and accommodate the open office configuration that the Legg team had established.  A material, furnishings and product palette was adapted in several of the other new offices and provided much of the design direction for the headquarters project.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>After purchasing a four-story non-descript office building Rand, a construction firm wanted a new headquarters that physically represented their client-focused, innovative and high quality emphasis and inspired a work culture of both professionalism and spirited fun.  By placing open project manager offices along the window wall and custom low paneled workstations adjacent, a collaborative space was created and natural light was allowed to penetrate to the interior.  Particularly important to Rand was that their constant attention to detail and construction expertise was physically manifested through the use of several products and materials.  These included a custom lacquer whiteboard and award cabinet, polished concrete and hardwood floors, raw edge countertops, movable glass walls that collapsed to create a stage for the “Rand band”, limestone wall panels, and custom Bubinga veneer and lacquer office workwalls and ceiling.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The initial concept for the headquarters was a single tower building.  During the interior programming and planning process it became clear that larger floor plates were necessary to accommodate and maximize the functionality of the shared amenities and newsroom functions.  And that separating Gannett and USA Today was more logical for their space requirements and operations than a single one-size-fits-all floor plan.  The narrow floorplates of the upper floors allowed natural light to penetrate into the interior and was a driver in laying out a single sided perimeter row of offices with adjacent workstations accessed from an exterior glass corridor.   USA Today’s old space in a leased office tower meant that the paper’s sections were segregated on separate floors. The new newsroom was located on two large floors with editor offices grouped around an internal open stair to promote collaboration between the paper’s editors and reporters.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The General Services Administration is located in a historic "E" plan building with narrow floorplates with high ceilings.  Typically a central corridor provides access to office suites.  In a few instances the corridor had been removed thus opening up the space and allowing light to penetrate from two side.  Luckily, the Office of the Chief Architect inhabited one of those spaces.  The goal for the renovation was to maximize this asset and provide a refined work environment that reflected the design excellence goals with which the OCA were associated.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Lafarge's business goal was to downsize both physically and financially by moving to a new space.  As a building materials provider it was  important that the project attain the highest LEED certification and be respectful of the budget, and also display a selection of the client's products.  The design strategy was to organize the plan in a clear concise way and provide an architecture that respected that clarity.  By faceting the glass walls a design element was introduced with no added expense.  An existing two story space was designed as a lunchroom but could also accommodate a full staff meeting.  The existing concrete floors were ground and polished and more cost savings and LEED points were attained by using refurbished workstations and existing furniture.</image:caption>
